Fight the Bite

Project Overview

San Diego County’s Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) enhances quality of life by protecting public health and safeguarding environmental quality, educating the public to increase environmental awareness, and implementing and enforcing local, state, and federal environmental laws.

CENTRIC was contracted to manage the County of San Diego Fight the Bite Media Campaign during mosquito seasons from 2017 to present date. During Fall of 2022 the Fight the Bite campaign focused on protecting the residents and families of San Diego from insect-bite related illnesses. Messaging was focused on removing standing water to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in homes and properties.

TACTICS

Based on zip codes provided targeting the highest concentration of mosquitoes in San Diego and disadvantaged communities, CENTRIC was able to recommend media tactics including television, radio, out-of-home, and digital distributing educational messages to prevent mosquito breeding in home environments. Social media platforms were also included in the media mix, as well as media appearances by Vector Control Program spokespersons. With the zip codes provided, CENTRIC implemented a mapping approach as a guide for best placement of outdoor billboards, selection of radio and TV stations, target for email marketing and digital deployment. CENTRIC was able to create 50+ different creatives across digital, video, and outdoor in 6 different languages (English, Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Mandarin Chinese.)
